Software consultant · Kotlin Multiplatform · Android · AI

I help teams design, build, and ship applications for mobile, desktop, and web, and I help them make better use of AI while doing it. I'm a Google Developer Expert for Android, the author of the open source navigation library Enro, and previously the Android Platform Lead at ANZ, where I set technical direction for a team of more than 70 Android engineers.

What I do

I've spent over twelve years building software. I've led large engineering teams, shipped products used by millions of people, and worked in everything from big corporates to fast-paced start-ups. Now I offer my services as an independent contractor and consultant.

01

Contract development

I design and build applications for Android, iOS, desktop, and web using Kotlin Multiplatform, along with the backend services behind them. I'm comfortable building new products from scratch and working in large, long-lived codebases.

02

Consulting & AI advisory

I help teams with architecture reviews, Kotlin Multiplatform adoption, codebase audits, and technical leadership. I also advise on making effective use of AI in software development, including reviewing AI-generated (“vibe-coded”) systems for production readiness.

03

Training & talks

I run workshops and give talks on Kotlin, Compose, Kotlin Multiplatform, testing at scale, and AI-assisted development. I'm happy to present at your conference, your meetup, or directly to your team.

04

Open-source support

I offer commercial support for Enro, including integration help, priority fixes, and roadmap input. I can also help teams adopt and maintain other open source libraries in their Android and Kotlin Multiplatform projects.

What I'm working on

I'm involved with a number of different start-ups and projects. Here's a sample of my recent and current work.

Limited release

Sensori ↗

I'm building Sensori's mobile app, which turns 360° and smartphone video into engineering-grade point clouds and 3D models for AEC and geotech teams.

Platform refresh

WoolOnline ↗

I'm refreshing the platform behind WoolOnline, an online wool trading platform that has sold more than 1,000,000 bales of wool, worth over 450 million NZD, in its 15+ years of operation.

Co-founderIn development

Groundtruth ↗

I'm one of the co-founders of Groundtruth, a mobile app that turns a phone into a hands-free recorder for dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP) testing. It listens for hammer strikes and generates field reports for geotechnical engineers.

FounderEarly access

Reglyph ↗

I'm the founder of Reglyph, a tool for tabletop RPG groups. It takes audio recordings of game sessions, transcribes them, and builds a searchable archive and knowledge base, letting everyone at the table focus on the game instead of worrying about taking notes.

What I maintain

I'm a big fan of open source, and I actively maintain several libraries, all of them built to solve real problems in production applications.

Enro ↗

Enro is a navigation framework for Android and Kotlin Multiplatform that keeps navigation logic type-safe and testable as an app grows. Used in apps with millions of downloads including ANZ Plus and Splitwise.

UKPT ↗

UKPT (Udy Kotlin Project Template) is a Kotlin Multiplatform template for full-stack apps running on Android, iOS, desktop, and web. Gives a project a clear architecture and structure from the start. Built for agentic development.

udytils ↗

Udytils is a collection of utilities and frameworks for Kotlin Multiplatform, providing extended functionality for architecture testing, Kotlin-first RPC, state management, database management and more.

Where I've spoken

I'm a regular conference speaker across Australia and New Zealand, and I've been a Google Developer Expert for Android since 2024.

Let's talk

If you think I could help with something you're working on, I'd love to hear from you. I take on project-based development, advisory engagements, and training. I'm based in Wellington, New Zealand and work remotely by default, though I'm happy to travel for face-to-face time when it helps.
